Title Sequences- Imogen Salmon

Red lights

The title sequence begins with a piercing screech along with a soundtrack of a low pitch with a loud rhythm and a wind chime effect of some sort, this non-diegetic sound is accompanied by the distorted image of speckled light and letters appearing from the left hand side creating the writing to the credits.

Images such as the skulls, bodies and the shadow of hands flicker in the frame, again distorting the audience. The effects of only using black and white along with the sound creates a dark atmosphere.

Although, the font used is very simple, the effect of a fade of the letters appearing onto the screen and the use of random letters magnifying and flickering, enhances the spooky atmosphere which is being created. Also, the sudden thud of music when it suddenly increases in sound. Therefore, the image and sound working parallel together in this opening title sequence.

The flickered spots of the colour red appear too, this is the only other colour in this title sequence other than black and white, this relates to the title 'red lights', therefore first appearing when the title does.

Strange days

The non-diegetic sound effect of an alien spaceship hovering, is the first to occur, this is accompanied with a black screen which font appears onto. The font is wide and position in a straight line, in the centre of the screen.

The font appears in luminous colours, with each screen of text being a different colour. The text appears to shake slightly, very slightly side to side, creating the illusion it is hovering, continuing the alien spaceship theme.

The title sequence begins with two sound  bridges at the very beginning  this transfers the title image to a countdown by using a beeping sound as each second passes and the second using the dialogue of a man 'You ready?', afterwards this enters the opening images.

The following image is an extreme close up of an eye, this continues the theme, with the title name being 'strange days' and strangeness being associated with the unknown... aliens?

Rubicon

This title sequence has an ongoing theme of puzzles and secret code, suggesting the film is related to investigations. The sliding images use a yellow line to link together using codes such as letters and images as if showing the process of 'piecing  together the puzzle'.

Electrical sound affects are used, partly showing the time period as it shows technology, computer scanners and other electrical noises are recognisable. This is accompanied by high pace music which gradually increases and decreases in noise and pitch.

The colour use of black and white is plain but with the yellow emphasises the certain parts of the black and white images, trying to understand the puzzle.

The images of maps, satellite views and crosswords all relate to the theme.
